Teacher Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison for Theft

The Asante Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 36-year-old teacher from Freso Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Junior High School in the Bekwai Municipality to 10 years of imprisonment with hard labor for theft.

John Ankomah Boateng was found guilty of illegally withdrawing over GH¢238,550 from Bosomefreho Rural Bank Limited using the GhanaPay app, despite having only GH¢2.23 in his account.

According to Detective Chief Inspector Eric Twum, the fraudulent transactions took place between February 9 and February 26, 2024, and were reported to the Ashanti South Regional CID on February 28. Boateng was subsequently arrested on March 13, 2024.

During police interrogation, he admitted to the crime and disclosed that he had transferred the stolen funds to various individuals for safekeeping.

  • GH¢5,000 to Kwaku
  • GH¢20,000 to Duah
  • GH¢5,000 to Neymar
  • GH¢40,000 was paid to a travel agent to facilitate his travel arrangements

Following further investigations, Boateng was formally charged and prosecuted.
