Two armed robbery suspects have been shot dead following a gun battle with police after a mobile money (MoMo) robbery in Tema.
According to the Tema Regional Police Command, the incident occurred on Monday morning, April 13, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m. in Community 5.
Police said the suspects attacked a MoMo vendor at Aba Fosuah Plaza, where one of them approached the victim pretending to carry out a cash-out transaction. As the vendor attempted to process the request, the suspect pulled a pistol and demanded cash.
The victim resisted, leading to a struggle involving both suspects. During the confrontation, the vendor was shot in the leg before the attackers fled with the stolen money on a motorbike.
A nearby police patrol team responded quickly to a distress call and pursued the suspects toward Community 6.
During the chase, the suspects reportedly opened fire on the officers near a junction close to Smart Hotel. Police returned fire, and both suspects were hit and fell off their motorbike.
They were taken to the Police Hospital for treatment but were pronounced dead on arrival.
Their bodies have been deposited at the Police Hospital mortuary for preservation, identification, and autopsy, while investigations continue.
