Shooting in Swedish City of Örebro Leaves 10 Dead

A shooting incident at an adult education center in Örebro, Sweden, has resulted in the deaths of 10 people, including the suspected perpetrator.

Speaking at a press briefing, local police chief Roberto Eid Forest stated that the suspect, a man previously unknown to law enforcement, is believed to have acted alone. Authorities do not suspect terrorism as a motive for the attack, which occurred around midday in the city, located 160 kilometers west of Stockholm.

School principal Ingela Bäck Gustafsson, who was on her lunch break at the time, recalled the terrifying moment when students ran past her, urging everyone to flee.

“When I got to the playground, I heard shots, very close by,” she recounted. “We ran for our lives.”

Numerous police officers and emergency personnel were deployed to the scene at the Risbergska campus, providing support to students and staff. Nearby schools and businesses also assisted in sheltering those affected.

In the afternoon, heavily armed police forces were seen at a residential address in Örebro, believed to be linked to the suspect.

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed his condolences to the victims’ families, describing the incident as a painful day for Sweden. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), he condemned the tragedy:

“No one should have to experience the nightmare of sitting in a classroom and fearing for their lives.”
