Three Remanded Over Alleged Cocaine Trafficking in Accra

An Accra Circuit Court has remanded three individuals accused of conspiracy, possession, and trafficking of narcotic substances suspected to be cocaine.

The accused persons—Bright Ayivor, a 37-year-old trader; Ijiuba Ifeanyi Anicetu, a 51-year-old technician; and Kwabena Botwe, a 58-year-old businessman—are alleged to have been involved in illegal drug operations within the Accra metropolis.

They were arrested following intelligence-led operations by the police targeting suspected drug trafficking activities. Their pleas were not taken as the substances recovered have been sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.

The court, presided over by Madam Emanuella Sarah Asmah, remanded the accused to reappear on April 29, 2026, while investigations continue.

According to the prosecution, police surveillance operations led to the arrest of the suspects in connection with a planned drug transaction involving compressed substances suspected to be cocaine.

One suspect was allegedly arrested with 12 slabs of the suspected narcotics, while further investigations led to the arrest of the other accused persons, including an alleged supplier.

Prosecutors also told the court that additional searches uncovered GH¢400,000 believed to be proceeds from illegal drug sales, while efforts are underway to arrest another suspect currently at large.

The court rejected a bail application, citing the need for further investigations into the case.
