The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested two British nationals at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after foiling a major drug trafficking attempt involving a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs.

The arrests were made in two separate intelligence-led operations after the suspects arrived in Ghana aboard an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand. Acting on prior intelligence, NACOC officers flagged the travellers for inspection upon arrival.

A thorough search of their luggage uncovered 90 vacuum-sealed slabs of suspected cannabis. Sixty of the slabs weighed 32.89 kilograms, while an additional 30 slabs weighed 33.44 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to over 66 kilograms.

The suspected narcotics have been secured as evidence and are currently undergoing forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations.

NACOC described the arrests as a significant breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking and transnational organised crime.

The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be processed in accordance with the law, as authorities intensify efforts to dismantle the wider network behind the attempted smuggling operation.
