BREAKING: Chelsea Break Club Record To Re-sign Lukaku

Chelsea have re-signed striker Romelu Lukaku for a club-record £97.5m from Inter Milan.

Lukaku, who initially moved to Stamford Bridge as a 17-year-old from Belgian side Anderlecht in 2011, returns to Chelsea on a five-year deal that sees him become the highest-paid player at the club, earning £200,000 per week after tax.

The fee for Belgium’s record goalscorer surpasses the £75.8m paid for Kai Havertz last summer.

“I’m happy and blessed to be back at this wonderful club,” Lukaku told the club’s website. “It’s been a long journey for me: I came here as a kid who had a lot to learn, now I’m coming back with a lot of experience and more mature.

“The relationship I have with this club means so much to me, as you know. I have supported Chelsea as a kid and now to be back and try to help them win more titles is an amazing feeling.

“The way the club is going fits my ambitions perfectly at 28 and just coming off winning Serie A. I think this opportunity comes at the right time and hopefully we can have a lot of success together.

“Since I left Chelsea, it’s been a long journey with a lot of ups and downs, but these experiences made me strong and the challenge is to try to help the team win some more trophies. I can’t wait to get started and to help the club achieve more success.”

After leaving Chelsea in 2014, Lukaku became one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, scoring 87 goals in 166 games for Everton between 2014 and 2017, and 42 goals in 96 appearances during his two years at Manchester United before signing for Inter in 2019.

The 28-year-old scored 24 goals in Serie A last season, helping Inter to their first Scudetto in 11 years as the club put an end to Juventus’ nine-year reign as Italian top-flight champions.

Manny Pacquiao To Quit Boxing And Run For Philippine Presidency In 2022

Manny Pacquiao To Quit Boxing And Run For Philippine Presidency In 2022

Boxing star Manny Pacquiao said on Sunday he will run for president of the Philippines next year, after railing against corruption in government and what he calls President Rodrigo Duterte’s cozy relationship with China.

Pacquiao accepted the nomination of his political allies during the national assembly of the faction he leads in the ruling PDP-Laban Party, days after a rival faction nominated Duterte’s longtime aide, Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, as its presidential candidate.

That faction nominated Duterte for vice president, a move that critics called a cynical ploy by Duterte to retain power.

Go declined the nomination, but the rift between the Pacquiao and Duterte factions has escalated.

“I am a fighter, and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring,” Pacquiao, 42, a senator, said in a live-streamed speech during the assembly. “I am accepting your nomination as candidate for president of the Republic of the Philippines.”

Pacquiao’s faction has not expressed support for Duterte’s vice-presidential bid. Duterte is prohibited by the constitution from running for a second six-year term as president.

One of the greatest boxers of all time and the only man to hold world titles in eight different divisions, Pacquiao did not comment about his 26-year professional career.

Despite his popularity, Pacquiao trails the front-runners in opinion polls that have been topped consistently by Duterte’s daughter, Sara Duterte-Carpio.

In July, Pacquiao was voted out as PDP-Laban leader, weeks after challenging Duterte over his position on China and record on fighting corruption, but his ouster was rejected by his faction.

Pacquiao, once a close ally of Duterte, had said more than 10 billion pesos ($200 million) in pandemic aid intended for poor families was unaccounted for, adding this was just one discovery in his planned corruption investigation.

His anti-corruption crusade comes as the Senate has opened an investigation into alleged overpricing of medical supplies and equipment purchased under the government’s pandemic response program.

Duterte challenged Pacquiao to name corrupt government offices to prove the boxer was not just politicking ahead of the election.

Pacquiao countered by warning of jail for corrupt government officials: “Your time is up!”

‘Unstoppable’ Chelsea Hammer Spurs 3-0 To Win Derby

'Unstoppable' Chelsea Hammer Spurs 3-0 To Win Derby

Chelsea moved joint top of the table – alongside Liverpool – following a 3-0 win at Tottenham where both teams paid tribute to the late Jimmy Greaves.

On the morning of the contest, it was announced that the legendary England striker had passed away at the age of 81 and it was fitting that supporters from two of his former clubs joined together to salute his genius ahead of kick-off.

It looked like there would be a goal-fest in his honour too as the sides made bright, attacking starts with Spurs, in particular, penning the Blues back with a high press from their front three.

However, the much-anticipated shoot-out pitting Harry Kane against Romelu Lukaku failed to materialise and the best opportunity of note in the first period came just past the half-hour when Heung-Min Son’s heavy touch allowed Kepa – in for the injured Edouard Mendy – to smother at his feet.

Chelsea came out with a renewed approach following the break and the introduction of N’Golo Kante proved key. Thomas Tuchel’s men took the lead four minutes after the restart when Thiago Silva thumped home a header from a left-wing corner before Kante doubled the advantage with a heavily deflected 25-yard strike soon after.

Spurs offered little to suggest they could launch a realistic recovery and in added time Toni Rudiger put the seal on what is a sixth successive away win in London derbies for the first time in their history.

The result means Chelsea move joint top with Liverpool. Spurs are four points further back in seventh.

Chelsea will now switch focus to an EFL home clash with Aston Villa on Wednesday prior to hosting Man City in a mouth-watering league match on Saturday.

Spurs visit Wolves in the EFL Cup before visiting Arsenal in the North London derby on Sunday.

Man United Players Mobbed David de Gea After Saving A Penalty Since 2016 As They Beat Westham (Watch)

David De Gea saved a penalty in the fifth minute of injury time taken by West Ham substitute Mark Noble, who was sent on purely to take the kick, as Manchester United hold on for a 2-1 victory at the London Stadium.

A penalty was awarded via a VAR check after Jarrod Bowen saw his cross strike the outstretched arm of Luke Shaw.

Minutes earlier the failure of West Ham to sign last season’s loan star Jesse Lingard came back to haunt them as the England striker curled an unstoppable curling strike into the top corner in the 89th minute.

The Hammers went in front on the half-hour mark when Said Benrahma aimed a shot from 20 yards to David De Gea’s left only for it to be deflected by Raphael Varane just inside the goalkeeper’s right-hand post.

The lead lasted just five minutes before Bruno Fernandes’ fine inswinging cross from the left saw Cristiano Ronaldo beat the offside trap and though Lukas Fabianski saved the initial attempt on the volley, he could do nothing to stop the rebound nestling in the goal behind him as the Real Madrid legend scored for the third game in succession.

The Red Devils were overall worthy victors with Fernandes when the game was goalless seeing a shot tipped onto the post by Fabianski, who also raced from his line to deny a great chance for Ronaldo in the second half.

Had West Ham grabbed an equaliser United would have been particularly sickened as the Portuguese legend went to ground claiming a penalty three times in the latter stages of the game but on all occasions referee Martin Atkinson waved away his appeals.
