SHOCKING: Kotoko Congratulate Rivals Hearts of Oak After Domestic Double

Accra Hearts of Oak are champions of the 2020/21 MTN FA Cup less than a month after winning the Ghana Premier League title.

The Phobians defeated AshantiGold after penalty shoot out to lift the 2021 Ghana FA Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

After a goalless draw in regulation time, the game travelled to extra time but both clubs failed to produce a winner until it reached penalty shootout.

The Miners started the game on a brighter note but failed to capitalise on their dominance to open the scoring.

Seth Osei came close to open the scoring very early in the game after combining with Eric Esso but his last ditch effort was saved by Hearts goalkeeper Richard Attah.

Hearts of Oak appealed for a penalty by the 46th minute after a powerful drive from Caleb Amankwa accidentally hit Ampem Dacosta to prevent the Phobians from scoring the opener. The players and supporters protested that Dacosta used his arm in the process but referee Daniel Laryea was not ready for any drama.

AshantiGold had their chances too when Frank Akoto’s long pass found Mark Agyekum but the striker fluffed the opportunity to the dismay of his colleagues.

Hearts brought on star player Ibrahim Salifu for Isaac Mensah by the 68th minute as they search for a breakthrough.

However, the midfielder’s first attempt to force his way into AshantiGold’s box was unsuccessful and Fatawu Mohammed also picked a yellow card on the other side

Six minutes later, Hearts midfielder Ansah Botchway was brought down at the edge of AshantiGold’s box but the resulting freekick by Ovouka was cleared.

Chances in the game became premium as both sides struggled to break down the bulwark defence of their opponents and referee Laryea brought the game to an end and signalled for extra time.

After two AshantiGold players failed to score their penalties, Afriyie Barnie was presented the opportunity to win the cup for the Phobians but he surprisingly missed his kick with AshantiGold goalkeeper Kofi Mensah calmly saving the ball.

Benjamin Afutu later missed his kick and AshantiGold had the opportunity to win the day but Seth Osei surprisingly missed his effort.

Hearts of Oak will represent the country in the 2021/22 Caf Champions League.

The Black Stars secured a 1-0 win against Ethiopia before losing to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa at the FNB Stadium.

The Stars remain 7th on the continent despite the drop in the main rankings, behind Senegal, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Nigeria and Egypt.

GFA Close To Appoint Milovan Rajevac As New Head Coach Of Black Stars

GFA Close To Appoint Milovan Rajevac As New Head Coach Of Black Stars

Milovan Rajevac is leading the race to replace CK Akonnor as Black Stars coach, Joy Sports has gathered.

The 67-year-old was contacted by the Ghana FA three-man committee led by Vice President, Mark Addo, on Monday night following their decision to part company with Akonnor.

The committee also contacted former Zambia, Ivory Coast, and Morocco coach, Hervé Renard, Aston Villa U-23 coach George Boateng, and Borussia Dortmund assistant Otto Addo for the vacant post.

George Boateng, whose work is believed to be loved by the GFA President, Kurt Okraku, was offered the position of an assistant. He turned down the offer, insisting the top job is what he wants.

Sources say, Boateng has, however, agreed to play the role of a scout for the team instead when they go for the next African Cup in January.

Otto Addo, who featured for Ghana at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, contacted CK Akonnor for insight about the job. It is understood the conversation did not imbue confidence about his job security and so, he also declined.

For Renard, who is the number one choice of the FA per our sources, his reported current monthly salary of $100,000 is a major issue.

GFA investigations, however, revealed that he is on $70,000 per month in his current job as Saudi Arabia national team coach. This figure is still on the high side, but the FA appeared willing to pay if the money would be available from the government.

Mathematically, the FA realised that they would need $2.4 million across a two-year contract duration on the table for all coaches contacted, a figure they can not guarantee is available.

As a result, the football governing body are settling on Milovan Rajevac who led Ghana to the final of the 2010 AFCON in Egypt, and the quarter of the World Cup in South Africa same year.

Milo, as the Serbian is affectionately known, commanded respect from officials and players alike, and the leadership is convinced a second coming is necessary.

Their choice will be debated Executive Committee before an announcement is made.

He is expected to sign a two-year deal with a salary of about $45,000 per month.
