Black Stars head coach Otto Addo says he is not worried about losing his job despite growing speculation surrounding his future. The 49-year-old tactician made the comments after successfully guiding Ghana to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana secured its fifth World Cup appearance with a narrow 1-0 victory over Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday. The decisive goal came in the first half from midfielder Mohammed Kudus, sealing the Black Stars’ place in the global tournament.
However, despite the qualification, Addo has faced mounting criticism over the team’s inconsistent performances throughout the qualification campaign.
Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s official website before the Comoros game, the former Borussia Dortmund talent coach emphasized that his focus remains on making Ghanaians proud rather than worrying about his job security.
“What happens after is not in my hands. I hope that a lot of people, if we win, can go to America. We have to win this game. This is what we are looking at. If Ghanaians are happy, then we are happy,” Addo said.
His qualification feat marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s football history, as he becomes the first coach to lead the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup tournaments, having also guided the team to the 2022 edition in Qatar.
The Black Stars will find out their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA World Cup when the official draw takes place on December 5.
