Three people have lost their lives in a tragic road accident on the Offinso–Techiman road in the Ashanti Region.
The accident occurred on the evening of Monday, January 12, 2026, and involved a Suzuki Carry truck, commonly known as Abossey Okai Macho, and a trailer. Both vehicles were travelling towards Techiman at the time of the crash.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened near a bridge after an overtaking vehicle suddenly cut across the road. In an attempt to avoid a collision, both drivers swerved. The manoeuvre caused the trailer to overturn, while the Suzuki Carry rammed head-on into the bridge as its driver tried to escape being crushed.
The impact sparked a fire outbreak, causing the Suzuki Carry to burst into flames. The driver and a trader whose goods were being transported to Techiman were trapped in the vehicle and burnt beyond recognition.
The trailer was occupied by the driver and his mate. Both were rushed to a nearby hospital, where the trailer driver was pronounced dead on arrival. The mate sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
Confirming the incident to Citi News on Tuesday, January 13, the Afigya Kwabre North Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Kwame Yaro, said the victims trapped in the burning vehicle screamed for help, but bystanders were unable to assist due to the intensity of the fire and the absence of firefighting equipment.
“There was no fire extinguisher available, and by the time the Ghana National Fire Service arrived, the victims had already been consumed by the flames to the extent that they could not be recognised,” he said.
