The Police Intelligence Department of the Central East Regional Police Command has rescued 46 victims of human trafficking, including a three-year-old child, from Green Estate, a suburb of Buduburam in the Gomoa East District.
According to the police, the victims are believed to be nationals of neighbouring Francophone countries who were allegedly lured by traffickers with promises of better opportunities abroad.
Investigations indicate that the victims were later confined in a house, where they were denied access to mobile phones, adequate food, and basic comforts.
The rescue followed an intelligence-led operation launched after a relative of one of the victims lodged a formal complaint with the police.
One suspect has so far been arrested in connection with the case, while efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the alleged trafficking network.
Confirming the development, the Public Relations Officer of the Central East Regional Police Command, DSP Victor Dosoo, said investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Ghana Police Service has assured the public of its commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons across the country.
