The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has promoted 35 police officers in recognition of their role in the arrest of suspects linked to the high-profile Adabraka gold robbery in Accra.
According to a statement issued by the Ghana Police Service on Thursday, January 15, 2026, the promotions were awarded in appreciation of the officers’ exceptional professionalism, dedication, and teamwork during operations that led to the arrest of suspects involved in the robbery.
The statement noted that IGP Yohuno, together with members of the Police Management Board (POMAB), congratulated the officers on their elevation and urged them to view the promotions as a call to higher responsibility, leadership, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to recognising merit and rewarding excellence as part of efforts to strengthen professionalism, boost morale, and enhance effective policing across the country.
The Adabraka gold robbery occurred in November 2024 when a group of armed men stormed the area in broad daylight and attacked a jewellery shop. Viral videos from the scene showed at least five heavily built men wielding firearms and firing shots into the air as they loaded stolen items, including bags believed to contain money, into a silver vehicle.
Eyewitnesses said the robbers ordered a bystander who had raised his hands in surrender to comply with their demands. At one point, the suspects were seen scattering some of the money they had seized while continuing to fire warning shots.
After loading the stolen items, the robbers sped off while firing additional shots into the air. The incident left at least one person injured after being hit by gunfire, while another video captured residents rushing the injured victim to the hospital for treatment.
Police investigations have since led to the arrest of three suspects, with the promoted officers playing key roles in the intelligence-led operations that resulted in the arrests.
