The National Communications Authority (NCA) has suspended three radio stations owned by Wontumi Multimedia Company Limited, chaired by Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, over violations of broadcasting regulations.
The affected stations 95.9 FM in Accra, 101.3 FM in Kumasi, and 101.3 FM in Takoradi were cited for unauthorised use of Studio-to-Transmitter Link (STL) frequencies and operating from unapproved transmitter sites.
The sanctions followed the expiration of a 30-day grace period granted by President John Dramani Mahama for defaulting stations to rectify regulatory breaches. The NCA said Wontumi Multimedia failed to fully comply within the amnesty period, leading to the suspensions.
The enforcement, carried out under Regulation 54 of the Electronic Communications Regulations, 2011 (L.I. 1991), also affected six other radio stations nationwide that ignored corrective directives during the grace period.
The NCA reaffirmed its commitment to strict monitoring of Ghana’s broadcasting sector to ensure adherence to licensing conditions and relevant communication laws.
