Four individuals have been remanded by the High Court in Accra for their alleged involvement in the train accident that occurred last week at Kpong in the Eastern Region. The accident resulted in significant damage to the train and disrupted transportation services in the area.
The accused individuals, identified as Kokuo Koudjo, Patrick Kwaku Sosu, Alaza Prosper, and Fiadugbe Emmanuel, are accused of aiding convicted Abel Dzidotor in causing unlawful damage to the train. Dzidotor, a 41-year-old truck driver, was recently sentenced to six months in jail for leaving his vehicle unattended on a section of the tracks, which led to the accident.
During their appearance before the court presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, the four individuals did not enter pleas as the prosecutor, Assistant State Attorney Christabel Selma Anafure, requested more time to finalize investigations. The case has been adjourned to May 8, 2024.
According to the prosecution’s facts, on April 18, 2024, between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm, the accused individuals were on board a Hyundai Gold truck driven by Dzidotor Abel, who is now a convict. The exact role of each accused in the incident is yet to be fully disclosed as investigations are ongoing.
The court has ordered the four accused individuals to be remanded into custody pending the completion of investigations into their alleged involvement in the train accident.
