33-year-old  Businessman Accused of Scamming Church of $57,000 for Car Deal

A 33-year-old businessman, Andrews Amoah Ampaw, has been accused of defrauding a renowned church in Ghana of $57,000 under the pretense of procuring a 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser from Dubai. Ampaw, who pleaded not guilty, was apprehended by Ghana Immigration Service officials at Kotoka International Airport while attempting to leave the country.

Ampaw’s arrest shed light on his alleged fraudulent activities, with the complainant, a clergy member, positively identifying him. The businessman, residing in Weija SCC, Accra, had gone into hiding after allegedly failing to deliver the promised vehicle to the church.

During his appearance before the Achimota Circuit Court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, Ampaw was granted bail of GHC800,000 with stringent conditions, including surrendering his passport to the court’s registry and reporting to the case investigator every Friday.
