The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court has remanded three suspects into police custody in connection with a major human trafficking and kidnapping case uncovered at Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
The suspects, identified as Amadidje Myorwer, Rashidi Vidome and Eric Dossou Dave, were arrested on Friday, January 16, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Department of the Central East Regional Police Command.
The operation led to the rescue of 46 trafficked victims, including a three-year-old child, who were being held in an apartment at Green Estate, a suburb of Buduburam.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects lured the victims from neighbouring francophone countries, including Benin, Togo and La Côte d’Ivoire, under the pretext of securing travel opportunities for them. Upon arrival in Ghana, the victims were confined in the apartment and coerced into contacting their families to demand money.
The rescue operation was initiated after a relative of one of the victims lodged a complaint with the police. Acting on intelligence gathered, officers located the apartment, freed all 46 victims and arrested the suspects.
The three accused persons appeared before the court on Monday, January 19, 2026, where they were charged with offences relating to kidnapping and defrauding by false pretence.
Prosecutors requested that the suspects be remanded to enable further investigations, a request that was granted by the court, presided over by Her Honour Asantewaa Atakorah.
The suspects are expected to reappear before the court on January 28, 2026.
Police authorities noted that this is the second successful human trafficking rescue operation carried out by the Central East Regional Police Command within the past two weeks, reaffirming their commitment to combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons.
