University of Ghana Releases names of students and Lecturers who have been sanctioned for misconduct

The University of Ghana has publicly released the names of students and staff members who have been sanctioned for various forms of misconduct. The disciplinary actions, approved by the Academic Board, include suspensions, expulsions, and mandatory training programs.

Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct

Among those sanctioned is Francis Abdul Razak, who was found guilty of plagiarism. He has been suspended for two academic years, with his thesis marked as failed. He has been granted the opportunity to reapply for admission and redo the coursework component.

Similarly, Catherine Enwunlu and Eunice Dickson faced penalties for falsifying documents related to university accommodation. Both were permanently expelled from Akuafo Hall for their actions.

Violence and Disorderly Conduct

A significant number of students were suspended for their involvement in violent clashes between Commonwealth Hall and Mensah Sarbah Hall. The university cited Brown Kevi Kubiti Kwasi, Francis Prempeh, Martin Elikem Wlexor, Michael Tetteh Kenney, Prince Owusu Acheampong, Owusu Frankling Afrifa, Obeng Takyi Stephen, and Nicholas Armah for participating in activities that endangered the safety of others. Each of these students has been suspended for two academic years.

Drug-Related Offenses

Several students were also penalized for possessing narcotics. Prince Kwaku Sarfo, Victus Edem Adzaho, Wahid Mohammed, and Boison Norbert have been sanctioned for violating the university’s drug policies. Their penalties range from suspension for one to two academic years to undergoing mandatory counseling and signing behavioral undertakings.

Sexual Harassment Allegations Against a Staff Member

A notable case involves Dr. Sampson Obed Appiah, a member of the university’s academic staff, who was found guilty of sexual harassment. His sanctions include a formal apology to the complainant, a two-semester suspension, and mandatory training on sexual harassment and misconduct. Additionally, he is barred from seeking promotion for a year after his suspension.

The university has reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline and maintaining high ethical standards. In a statement, Registrar Emelia Agyei-Mensah urged students and staff to familiarize themselves with the university’s regulations and conduct themselves in a manner befitting the institution’s values.
