Officers of the Western Regional Police Command have seized 10 excavators and arrested key illegal mining kingpins, including Chinese nationals, in Abelebo and Akango in the Evalue Ajomoro-Gwira District.
The arrest was effected on February 22, 2025.
They were found operating right in the heart of the Ankobra River.
Those arrested include 7 expatriates and 8 Ghanaians.
Authorities have vowed to intensify their crackdown on illegal mining activities in the region to protect the country’s water bodies and environment.
