NSA Scandal: Court reduces Osei Assibey Antwi’s bail to GH¢623 million

The High Court has reduced the bail amount for Osei Assibey Antwi, the former Executive Director of the National Service Authority (NSA), from GH¢800 million to GH¢623 million while keeping all other bail conditions unchanged.

The decision follows an appeal by Antwi’s legal team, who argued that the initial bail sum was excessive and impossible to satisfy.

Osei Assibey is currently facing trial on charges including stealing, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the state, amounting to GH¢1.4 billion.

His defense contended that meeting the original bail condition would have required pledging numerous high-value properties in Accra or over a thousand homes in Kumasi, which they described as unrealistic. They also pointed out that Antwi’s travel documents had already been seized and his name placed on a no-flight list, mitigating any risk of absconding.

However, state prosecutor Dufie Prempeh, representing the Attorney General’s Department, opposed the request, insisting that the initial bail terms were fair and intended to ensure the accused remained available for trial.

After reviewing the arguments, the court ruled that a revised bail amount of GH¢623 million was more appropriate, considering the scale of the alleged offence. The other conditions, including sureties and property requirements, remain in place.
