Asamoah Gyan, the former Black Stars captain, has stated that he has not retired from football and that he still has a lot to contribute on the field.
Since competing in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt, Gyan has not appeared for the Black Stars.
He is also without a club at the age of 36, having parted company with Ghana Premier League side Legon Cities the previous season.
Gyan, speaking on SuperSport TV as an analyst, claimed he hasn’t retired, but that he has to lose weight in order to return to active play.
“I haven’t given up my job yet.” If I need to play, I need to lose weight and be active before [that], and I need to train week in and week out, he stated, according to Ghanaweb.
In terms of my physical appearance, I still feel youthful at heart, and I still have a lot to contribute. The intellect is there, and everything is OK, but I don’t believe I am physically ready at this time. “I need to work on my physical condition.”
Gyan is presently working for SuperSport as a football analyst for the ongoing AFCON in Cameroon.
