Cape Coast: One Dead in Gory Accident at UCC Second Gate

At least one person has been confirmed dead following a gruesome accident near the second gate of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in the Central Region on Thursday afternoon, June 19, 2025.

The incident occurred around 12:48 p.m. and was captured on CCTV. The footage revealed a tipper truck loaded with sand ploughing through three vehicles and a pedestrian waiting to cross the road at the busy intersection.

The vehicles involved included the tipper truck, a Honda CRV SUV, a red saloon car, and a rickshaw (popularly known as pragyia). One occupant of the saloon car was found unresponsive when emergency responders pulled him from the vehicle.

Authorities are yet to release full details on the number of injuries, but eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with several bystanders rushing to assist before emergency services arrived.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident, and the public has been urged to remain cautious when navigating intersections in the area.
