Man Remanded Over Fatal Shooting of Nungua Queen Mother

A District Court has remanded Samuel Adjei into police custody in connection with a fatal shooting during an enstoolment ceremony at Nungua, leading to the tragic death of Naa Borley Ahmed.

The incident occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2025, when Adjei allegedly discharged live ammunition from a single-barrel gun, striking the victim in the right thigh. Despite being rushed to the hospital, she later succumbed to her injuries.

According to a police statement, preliminary investigations revealed that the shooting happened amid the traditional ceremony, raising concerns about the use of firearms at such events. The police swiftly arrested Adjei, who was arraigned before the court on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. He faces a murder charge and has been remanded into custody until his next court appearance on March 12, 2025.

Speaking to Citi News, Nene Teye Kwalaa II, an in-law of the deceased Queen Mother, described the incident as a shocking and tragic loss. He called on the authorities to ensure justice is served.

“The police arrested the culprit after the incident when the Queen Mother was sent to the hospital. Now, we have heard that the police have remanded the culprit as investigations continue. What we demand is justice for our deceased,” he stated.

The shooting has sparked discussions on the need for tighter regulations on the use of live ammunition during traditional ceremonies. Authorities have urged the public to exercise caution to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
