Wanderlust Ghana has temporarily suspended its ambitious 30,000-kilometre Accra-to-Cape Town expedition after two of its vehicles were flagged as stolen by Interpol. The vehicles in question, a 2016 Lexus RX 350 and a 2018 Toyota Tacoma, were reported stolen in Canada in 2019 and 2022, respectively. The issue was discovered as the group entered the Republic of Congo, where the vehicles were subsequently handed over to local security authorities for further investigation.
The vehicles had been purchased from dealers in Accra, Ghana, after conducting thorough due diligence, including Carfax verifications, which showed no red flags at the time. However, the discovery of their stolen status has led to the suspension of the journey and the return of the expedition’s third vehicle, a Ford F150 Raptor, to Ghana.
Wanderlust Ghana expressed its commitment to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation and pursue legal action against the vehicle sellers in Ghana. The group also highlighted the broader issue of stolen vehicles from North America being sold in the Ghanaian market, underscoring the need for more vigilance in vehicle transactions.
