Thirty-four residents of the Ayawaso West Municipality in the Greater Accra Region face court summons for not maintaining clean environments and failing to participate in the Ga Homowo clean-up exercise. This initiative, organized by the Ga Traditional Council and led by Ga Mantse King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, is crucial for preparing for the annual Homowo celebration, a key cultural event for the Ga people.
To ensure compliance, shops, banks, food joints, and other establishments were closed on Friday. Sandra Ahenkorah, the Municipal Chief Executive for Ayawaso West Municipal Assembly, warned of sanctions for non-compliance with environmental regulations, particularly during significant events like Homowo.
Ahenkorah emphasized the importance of adherence to the rules, stating, “We have summoned 34 people. We want all shops and businesses closed. That is the law. After the sermon, they closed their shops and joined us. However, we will still send them to court, as this is a rule we must enforce seriously.”
