Government to Terminate Delayed Road Contracts in Ashanti Region – Osei-Mensah

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei-Mensah, has announced that the government will terminate several road contracts in the Ashanti Region due to significant delays.

The government has also reaffirmed its commitment to completing crucial road projects that connect farming communities in the Ashanti Region to the regional capital, Kumasi, and other regions.

Minister Osei-Mensah highlighted that the poor road infrastructure in the Asante Akim South Municipality is adversely affecting residents. Specifically, he mentioned the 12km road between Komeaboye and Kokoben and the 8km road between Obogu and Kumeso, which are slated for contract termination and reassignment due to delays.

“Some of these roads were awarded to three different contractors. Unfortunately, while the contractors handling the beginning and end segments have completed their projects, those responsible for the middle sections have not. One road is approximately eight kilometers, and the other is twelve kilometers. We believe these contracts should be terminated and possibly reassigned to the contractor who successfully completed the other roads in the area,” stated Osei-Mensah.

He further emphasized the importance of the road between Obogu and Kumeso, which is about 8.5 kilometers long. “This road is crucial as it links the Asante South Municipal Assembly to the Eastern Region, specifically Birim North. It is a vital route,” he added.

The minister’s comments came after an inspection of ongoing road projects, including the upgraded Juaso through Nkwanta to Obogu 7km road, the Banka through Otuokwai to Kokoben 10km road, and the Komeaboye to Saabo junction road.
