In a remarkable display of alumni support, finalists from Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC Legon) and Achimota School were flown back to Accra for the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) finals. The flight was piloted by dedicated old boys of the respective schools, creating a memorable journey for the student contestants.
The pilot for the PRESEC team’s flight was none other than Michael Larbi, an alumnus from the 2003 year group. Accompanying him as co-pilot was Samuel Appiah, an alumnus from the 2007 year group. Both pilots proudly represented their alma mater, introducing themselves as “proud Ɔdadeɛ” before taking off.
PRESEC secured their spot in the grand NSMQ finale after an intense victory over Mfantsipim School and Keta Senior High Technical School. With 44 points and a nail-biting series of rounds of questions, they emerged victorious in the third semifinal clash on Thursday, October 19.
In a similar show of alumni support, Captain Ivan Nartey, Head of Flight Operations at Africa World Airlines and an Achimota School alumnus, flew the Achimota contestants from Kumasi to Accra. The special flights, piloted by these enthusiastic alumni, made the return of the NSMQ finalists an extraordinary and heartwarming experience.
The 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz finals are set to be a thrilling showcase of the brilliant minds of PRESEC and Achimota, and the support from their alumni, both in the air and on the ground, adds a unique and inspiring element to this prestigious academic competition.
