The University of Ghana has announced that it will not adjust its admission cut-off points for the 2025/2026 academic year, despite the significant nationwide drop in 2025 WASSCE performance.
The 2025 examination recorded a steep decline, especially in Core Mathematics, where A1–C6 passes fell drastically from 305,132 in 2024 to 209,068 in 2025. This left more than half of candidates below the minimum grades required for university entry, with nearly one in four students failing both Core Mathematics and Social Studies.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, Prof. Gordon Awandare, confirmed to Citi News that the university has already received submitted results from applicants who bought awaiting-results forms and will admit those who qualify.
He stressed that UG has more qualified applicants each year than available spaces, making it unnecessary to lower standards.
According to him, students who fall short of the required cut-off points should consider re-sitting their exams to improve their aggregates if they wish to gain admission into the University of Ghana.
