Six UG Learning Centres Unaccredited — GTEC Warns Public

The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has issued a strong public alert after discovering that six University of Ghana (UG) Learning Centres are operating without accreditation. The Commission cautions that certificates issued from these centres are invalid for employment, further education, or promotion.

In a statement signed by Dr Emmanuel Oware Nyarko, Director of Quality Assurance and Compliance, GTEC urged students, parents, and employers to always verify the accreditation status of institutions before enrolling or hiring.

Unaccredited UG Learning Centres:

  1. Koforidua – Not Accredited
  2. Cape Coast – Not Accredited
  3. Tamale – Not Accredited
  4. Ho/Tsito – Not Accredited
  5. Wa – Not Accredited
  6. Sunyani – Not Accredited

GTEC has also ordered 11 other tertiary institutions to suspend new admissions until they meet accreditation requirements. These include:
– Institute of Business Management and Journalism (Kumasi)
– Rural Development College (Kwaso)
– University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (Bunso)
– Kings and Queens Medical College (Akosombo)
– Springs College (Labone)
– Others across the country

Additionally, 26 institutions were listed as having expired institutional accreditation, including Abbeam Institute of Technology (Kasoa), Lakeside University College (Accra), ILMA Institute of Science and Technology (Accra), Presbyterian Nurses’ Training College (Bawku), and Holy Spirit College of Education (Ho).

GTEC warned that studying at unaccredited institutions exposes students to serious risks such as financial loss, wasted academic years, and undermined career prospects. The Commission says the notice is part of efforts to strengthen quality assurance and protect the public from misinformation and exploitation within the tertiary sector.
