Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that road contracts valued at GH¢63 billion awarded under the government’s ‘Big Push’ programme are expected to create approximately 490,000 jobs.
Presenting the 2026 Budget Statement to Parliament on Thursday, November 13, Dr. Forson said the job projections are based on World Bank metrics for employment generation from road infrastructure investment.
The Big Push programme, introduced in 2024, aims to accelerate nationwide infrastructure development with a strong focus on roads, bridges and major transport corridors. The initiative is designed to strengthen economic activity, improve connectivity and expand access across Ghana.
According to the Finance Minister, the latest contracts cover high-impact road projects across all regions, including improvements to feeder roads, upgrades to urban road networks and expanded rural access roads to boost trade and mobility.
“The GH¢63 billion road contracts awarded so far under the Big Push will generate an estimated 490,000 jobs. This estimation is consistent with World Bank metrics on job creation from road investment,” Dr. Forson said.
He added that the government remains committed to using infrastructure as a catalyst for economic transformation and widespread employment creation.
