Members of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) at the University of Ghana, Legon, have unanimously endorsed the decision made by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to declare a nationwide strike action.
In a referendum held yesterday, a significant majority of UTAG members at the University of Ghana participated in the voting process. Out of a total of 520 votes cast, 433 (83.3%) were in favor of the NEC decision, signifying acceptance of the proposed nationwide strike action. Additionally, 82 votes (15.8%) were against the motion, representing rejection, while there were 5 abstentions (1.0%).
As UTAG-UG aligns with the motion for a nationwide strike, attention now turns to the other 14 public universities, where UTAG members are yet to conduct their respective referendums. The outcome of these votes will further shape the course of action for UTAG as a whole, determining whether the nationwide strike will proceed unanimously across all institutions.
