TEWUG and TUWAG Unite Forces to Forge Strong Alliance for Education Workers in Ghana

The Tertiary Education Workers Union of Ghana (TEWUG) and the Technical University Workers Association-Ghana (TUWAG) have successfully joined forces, marking the formation of a formidable alliance dedicated to advocating for better conditions among their members across public and Technical Universities in Ghana.

In a recent meeting held on November 10, 2023, both unions thoroughly reviewed proposals and established a committee to outline the specific steps required for the merger.

This collaborative effort aims to leverage the combined strength of TEWUG and TUWAG to champion the interests of their members, particularly in engaging the Government to address issues related to collective bargaining.

During a press conference in Kumasi to announce the merger, Sulemana Abdul Rahman, the National President, emphasized the shared objectives of the unions resulting from this merger. He highlighted, “Both parties will exchange crucial information on collective bargaining, aiming to advance the interests of their respective members. Additionally, there will be a sharing of best practices and resources for effective handling of grievances and dispute resolution processes.”

The unified stance of TEWUG and TUWAG underscores their commitment to promoting collaboration, fostering open communication, and protecting the welfare of their members within public and Technical Universities.

Furthermore, both unions have issued directives instructing their members to recognize and abide by the regulations governing the newly merged entity.

This consolidation of forces among education unions signifies a pivotal step forward in advocating for improved working conditions and rights for academic staff in Ghana’s educational institutions.
