The Tamale Technical University (TaTU) celebrated the graduation of 184 individuals from the hospitality and tourism industry in a special congregation held in Wa. These graduates represent the inaugural cohort of trainees from the Wa Training Centre under the Ghana COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalization of Enterprises and Support (Ghana CARES OBAATANPA) program. This initiative, a collaborative effort of the Ministries of Finance and Employment and Labour Relations, along with the Social Partnership Council and TaTU, aimed to provide training and support to those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The graduates received certificates in various fields, including Event Management, Food Processing, and Front Office Operations.
During the ceremony, the importance of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in national development was emphasized. The Personal Assistant to the Upper West Regional Minister highlighted the critical role education plays in building a cohesive and prosperous Ghana and urged the graduates to equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills to compete globally. The Chairman of the Program Implementation Committee stressed that certificates are a starting point, but true success comes from skills, knowledge, competence, and dedication. He encouraged the graduates to use their newfound expertise to benefit society and contribute to the country’s progress.
In her valedictory speech, Ms. Mu-awia Umu Salwa expressed gratitude for the training they received, viewing it as a beacon of hope, an opportunity to rebuild their lives, and a chance to thrive in the dynamic field of hospitality and tourism.
