The Central North Regional Police Command has arrested 100 residents of Assin Wurakese in connection with the recent violent attack on a patient at the Akoti Health Centre in the Central Region.
Addressing the media, the Central North Regional Police Commander, DCOP Abraham Acquaye, said the arrests followed sustained intelligence gathering which revealed that the incident was a coordinated mob action involving multiple individuals within the community.
Based on the intelligence received, the police deployed about 85 officers to Assin Wurakese to conduct a targeted swoop aimed at identifying persons directly and indirectly involved in the attack.
DCOP Acquaye explained that all 100 suspects will be subjected to a screening process. Those found to have played a role in the incident will be arraigned before court to face the law, while individuals found innocent will be released.
He noted that the mass arrest was informed by evidence suggesting that some residents failed to prevent the crime, others aided and abetted the attackers, while certain individuals allegedly harboured suspects without reporting them to the police.
The Regional Commander added that the operation followed earlier arrests connected to the case. A community police officer and Yaw Buabeng, who was previously attacked by a mob and is also a suspect in a related matter, have already been arrested, arraigned before court, and remanded into police custody.
Both are expected to reappear before the court on February 5, 2026. He further confirmed the arrest of Daniel Ababio, who was seen in a viral video allegedly using a pair of scissors to inflict injuries on Yaw Buabeng at the Akoti Health Centre.
DCOP Acquaye cautioned the public against filming violent attacks instead of intervening or reporting to the police, stressing that such behaviour is unlawful.
He assured the public that the police will not succumb to pressure from politicians, traditional leaders, or influential individuals, emphasizing that justice will be applied without fear or favour.
