The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is today, Saturday, January 31, 2026, electing its flagbearer ahead of the 2028 general elections.

Delegates across the country are voting in what is regarded as one of the party’s most critical internal exercises following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.

Five aspirants are contesting the presidential primary: former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

An estimated 211,000 delegates from the party’s constituencies are participating in the process, with voting taking place at more than 300 polling centres nationwide.

The outcome of the election is expected to shape the party’s direction ahead of the 2028 polls and is also seen as a test of unity and internal cohesion within the NPP.

The primary follows months of nationwide campaigns, policy engagements, and regional tours by the aspirants, which have generated significant interest among party supporters and political observers.

Earlier this month, all five aspirants signed a peace pact, pledging to accept the results of the election and work together to maintain party unity after the polls.
