Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kennedy Agyapong, has expressed confidence that the party’s ongoing presidential primary will be conducted fairly.

Speaking to Channel One News at a polling centre in Assin Central in the Central Region, Mr Agyapong said he does not anticipate a repeat of the challenges that characterised the party’s 2023 presidential primary.

“I don’t think there will be a repetition of what happened in 2023. We hope it doesn’t happen. We have all done our job well to prevent rigging and everything, so I expect a fair contest,” he said.

The outspoken politician also pledged to unite the NPP should he emerge victorious, stressing the importance of cohesion as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections.

“If I’m the winner, I will be able to bring the party together,” he stated.

Mr Agyapong emphasised that regardless of the outcome, party unity must be preserved, noting that internal contests can be intense but should not result in lasting divisions.

“This shouldn’t be a problem at all. We’re all going to come together as one party and work. As for contests, sometimes it gets tough and some words are used which are not palatable, but we have to take it as it is. That doesn’t mean we should leave the party,” he added.

He further appealed to delegates to support his bid by voting massively in his favour, urging them to “vote number one.”

The NPP presidential primaries are currently underway across the country, with Mr Agyapong contesting against former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister for Food and Agriculture Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Minister of Education Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, and businessman Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.
