NDC Forms Committee to Investigate Chaos at Odododiodio Parliamentary Vetting, Postpones Primaries

Greater Accra Region Incident Sparks In-Depth Inquiry Ahead of Scheduled Primary

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken decisive action in response to the reported violence during the Greater Accra vetting process, leading to a hold on the Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary primary originally planned for October 31, 2023. In an official press release dated October 17, 2023, and signed by Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the Party, it was announced that all processes related to the party’s parliamentary primary in the Odododiodio Constituency would remain suspended until the conclusion of investigations by a Special Committee.

The release states, “At its regular meeting on Tuesday, 17th October 2023, the Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the NDC addressed the regrettable incident that transpired at the Greater Accra Regional Office during the vetting of aspirants for the Odododiodio Constituency parliamentary primary.”

It further elaborates, “Following extensive deliberations, FEC has entrusted the task of investigating the violence that occurred, as well as an appeal process concerning the eligibility of one of the aspirants, to a Special Committee. This committee will be responsible for conducting a thorough inquiry and providing appropriate recommendations.”

The Special Committee comprises distinguished members, including Rt. Hon. Edward Doe Adjaho, former Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Ghana; Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC; and George Loh, Deputy Director of Legal Affairs for the NDC. Additionally, the committee includes Obuobia Darko Opoku, Deputy Director of Communications for the NDC, and Peter Lanchene Toobu, Member of Parliament for the Wa West Constituency.
