Ghanaian defender Mohammed Salisu delivered a standout performance to earn the Man of the Match award in AS Monaco’s 2-2 draw with Cypriot side Pafos on Wednesday.
Salisu was dominant throughout the full 90 minutes, topping the UEFA Technical Observer ratings despite being unfortunate to concede a late equaliser after a deflection.
Monaco opened the scoring early when Takumi Minamino calmly finished in the fifth minute. Pafos responded quickly, with former Chelsea centre-back David Luiz heading in from a corner just 13 minutes later.
The French side restored their lead shortly after when Folarin Balogun capitalised on a goalkeeping error from Neofytos Michail to slot home.
Pafos, however, snatched a dramatic late equaliser as Ivan Sunjic’s shot rattled the crossbar and deflected off Salisu into the net.
Despite the unlucky moment, Salisu’s overall influence was immense. He completed 54 passes and made 14 decisive defensive interventions, reinforcing his reputation as a key figure in Monaco’s defence.
The 26-year-old will look to maintain his impressive form when Monaco face reigning champions PSG at the Stade Louis II on Saturday.
