The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has dismantled a sophisticated offshore cryptocurrency fraud scheme and recovered more than US$15 million in digital assets, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Dominic Ayine, has disclosed.
Speaking at the Accountability Series on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Mr Ayine said investigations revealed that the fraudulent crypto wallets were hosted on the Seychelles-based exchange platform, OKX.
According to him, internal investigations by OKX confirmed EOCO’s findings, showing that over 1,000 suspicious transactions originated from a single IP address and specific location, indicating the activities of one individual rather than multiple users.
Through Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, EOCO identified the wallet owner as a Chinese national residing and working in Ghana under a valid resident permit. The suspect was also linked as an employee of the company allegedly used to defraud Ghanaian and British victims.
The Attorney-General said EOCO shut down the company involved and seized its operations to prevent further financial losses.
He added that on November 19, 2025, the recovered cryptocurrency assets were successfully converted and transferred into EOCO’s exhibit account, amounting to US$15,191,730.
