The Eastern Regional Police Command has announced the closure of the Kukurantumi Police Station in the Eastern Region following violent attacks by some youth of the town. All police personnel stationed there have also been withdrawn on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police.

According to preliminary investigations, the incident occurred on Sunday, September 21, 2025, around 7:00 am, when a group of youth launched an attack on the police station and nearby barracks. Armed with stones, clubs, and other implements, the group attempted to set the building ablaze after the death of a suspect, Bright Kena, also known as D-ball, who had been arrested for alleged unlawful entry and theft. He was receiving treatment at the Community Hospital in Kukurantumi before his death.

The attack prompted the deployment of a police reinforcement team, which managed to restore calm, law, and order in the area.
