Renowned Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama has cancelled several international engagements following injuries sustained during an alleged assault in Tamale.

The artist, CEO of Red Clay Studio, said the incident has left him with speech difficulties, sleeplessness, and ongoing physical pain, forcing him to suspend work.

Mahama, who lost a tooth during the incident, had been scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom and Europe for lectures at institutions including Cambridge, Oxford, and the Royal Arts Institute in London, as well as visits to Helsinki, Milan, and Venice.

However, he says his current condition makes travel impossible.

According to him, the injuries have had both physical and psychological effects, including rib pain, recurring headaches, and dental instability.

He noted that the situation may keep him away from active work for months as he focuses on recovery.

The alleged assault, which occurred on March 21, has been linked by Mahama to individuals believed to be part of the Ghana Police Service Special Operations Team, popularly known as “Black Maria,” although the unit has denied any involvement.
