The Koforidua High Court has granted bail to former New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Freddie Blay, in the sum of GH¢800,000.

The bail comes with two sureties, both required to be residents in Accra and possess valid Ghana Cards.

The decision follows a brief detention period during which Mr Blay reportedly suffered a health scare. He was rushed to a medical facility after his blood pressure rose to dangerously high levels while in custody, shortly after being remanded by the Akropong Circuit Court.

Mr Blay was remanded in connection with an alleged demolition dispute at Kitase and is expected to reappear before the circuit court on April 9, 2026.

His arrest followed the execution of a bench warrant issued in April 2025 after he allegedly failed to honour multiple police invitations and did not appear for a scheduled court hearing.

The case centres on a parcel of land at Kitase, which prosecutors claim he ordered to be demolished while construction was ongoing.

However, his legal team has denied the allegations, insisting that he only instructed the clearing of a bare piece of land to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for dangerous reptiles.

They further argue that the matter is civil rather than criminal and note that a previous High Court ruling in favour of the complainant is currently under appeal.
