A tragic road accident near Asanso, close to Asante Bekwai in the Ashanti Region on Sunday, November 19, 2023, has resulted in the reported loss of six lives.
The incident transpired when one of the five vehicles transporting mourners from Aputuogya to Manso Fahiakobo collided with a truck, leading to a devastating crash.
Among those involved, five individuals tragically lost their lives instantly at the scene, comprising four adults and a child. Subsequently, another person succumbed to injuries sustained during the collision while receiving treatment at Asante-Bekwai hospital.
Several others, who suffered injuries in the accident, were promptly rushed to the Bekwai Government Hospital and the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) for urgent medical attention.
An eyewitness, Nana Ampong, shared with Citi News the somber details of the harrowing incident: “This is a tragic event that occurred at Asante Bekwai-Asanso Afidjase. One of the five vehicles conveying mourners from Aputuogya to Manso Fahiakobo collided with a truck carrying sand, resulting in the immediate loss of five lives—four adults and a child.”
He further elaborated, “The sixth fatality occurred upon arrival at the Asante-Bekwai hospital. Approximately seven individuals involved in the collision were transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, while the remaining casualties are currently receiving medical care at Asante Bekwai hospital.”
The unfortunate collision has brought immense sorrow and tragedy to the affected families and the community at large, highlighting the need for continued efforts to ensure road safety and prevent such heartrending accidents in the future.
