Alfred Kotey Ashie Emerges as NDC’s Choice for Odododiodioo Parliamentary Candidate in 2024 Elections

In a decisive victory, Alfred Nii Kotey Ashie has clinched the position of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for the Odododiodioo constituency, paving the way for the upcoming 2024 General Elections. The election, which took place on Sunday, saw Ashie securing 1209 votes, while his opponent, Emmanuel Nii Okai Laryea, garnered 952 votes out of the total 2161 votes cast.

The electoral process witnessed the participation of over 2100 NDC delegates from the Odododiodioo constituency in the Greater Accra Region. The event, initially delayed due to an injunction filed by disqualified parliamentary aspirant Michael Nii Yarboi Anan, proceeded following the dismissal of Anan’s interlocutory injunction application.

In the wake of his victory, Mr. Kotey Ashie addressed the delegates, expressing his commitment to fostering unity within the party as it gears up for the December polls.

This development follows the disqualification of Michael Nii Yarboi Annan by the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC in November 2023. The party’s report outlined that a special committee’s findings justified Annan’s disqualification based on Article 41(8)(b) of the NDC Constitution, which stipulates a member’s requirement to be an active party member at the constituency level for the four years preceding the nomination filing date.

The Odododiodioo constituency primary had initially been postponed indefinitely due to a court injunction obtained by the disqualified candidate. However, with the court’s dismissal, the party has now given the green light for the primary to proceed.
