Ghana Receives Invitation to Participate in Implementation of Ukrainian Peace Formula

Ghana has received an invitation to contribute to the implementation of the Ukrainian Peace Formula, a comprehensive ten-point plan aimed at resolving the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy extended the invitation during a meeting with Ghanaian President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on the sidelines of the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Zelenskyy emphasized the crucial role of Ghana in the peace process, recognizing the country as a beacon of peace and political stability in the sub-region.

The Ukrainian Peace Formula addresses key issues such as food and energy security, territorial integrity, environmental safety, the release of prisoners, and the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine. Both leaders discussed ways to deepen relations between Ukraine and Ghana, particularly in the areas of education, science, and technology.

The meeting also explored opportunities for enhancing cooperation between the two nations and other African countries. Discussions included plans for the education of Ghanaian students in Ukrainian higher educational institutions and the potential establishment of logistics hubs for trans-shipment of Ukrainian agricultural products to African nations.

President Zelenskyy commended Ghana for its support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, especially within the decisions of international organizations. The leaders acknowledged the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict on global economies, with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) noting a surge in global prices, particularly for oil, natural gas, and food, including a record increase in wheat costs.

President Zelenskyy, in his address at the World Economic Forum, urged the global community to stand united in supporting Ukraine against ongoing Russian aggression. He announced plans for a global summit dedicated to promoting peace, with hopes of holding the summit in Switzerland. Meanwhile, President Nana Akufo-Addo led Ghana’s delegation in engaging with high-level stakeholders and global leaders during the Forum, covering key themes such as achieving security and cooperation, fostering economic growth, harnessing artificial intelligence, and developing a long-term strategy for climate, nature, and energy.
