A 24-year-old motor rider has been remanded into prison custody by the Toase District Court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality of the Ashanti Region for allegedly killing an illegal miner at Manso-Moseaso.
The plea of Benjamin Kwakye was not taken, and he is expected to reappear before the court on March 3, 2026, as the prosecution awaits advice from the Attorney General’s Office.
Police Inspector Kwaku Frimpong, prosecuting, told the court, presided over by Mr Robert Addo, that the complainant is a 52-year-old father of Prince Amankwaa Tagoe, the deceased.
According to the prosecution, the suspect, his brother Paa Kwasi, and the deceased, who was a friend, resided in the same house at Manso-Moseaso in the Amansie West District.
On March 3, 2025, Paa Kwasi’s money reportedly went missing. He suspected that the suspect and the deceased had conspired to steal it and subsequently sacked the deceased from the house.
The deceased later confronted the suspect about the missing money, leading to a quarrel and physical altercation.
On August 5, 2025, the two reportedly met again at a chop bar and fought. During the confrontation, the deceased allegedly threatened to kill the suspect.
The prosecution said the suspect then took an axe and threw it at the deceased’s head, causing him to fall unconscious and bleed profusely.
The deceased was rushed to the Asuowin Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect reportedly went into hiding until February 13, 2026, when he was arrested by the Ghana Police Service at Dadiesoaba in the Ahafo Region.
In his caution statement, he admitted the offence. After further investigations, he was charged and brought before the court.
