The Majority in Parliament has dismissed the Minority’s call for the removal of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, describing it as unmeritorious and unjustified.

The Minority on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, called for the immediate dismissal of the Foreign Affairs Minister, accusing him of incompetence and diplomatic failures.

Responding to the claims, Chairman of Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, said the concerns raised by the Minority, including issues relating to the suspension of immigrant visa processing and other diplomatic matters, do not justify the dismissal of the minister.

He questioned how decisions taken by the President of the United States could be attributed to Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, stressing that Mr Ablakwa has been proactive on the international front in engaging partners to create jobs and attract investment into the country, with positive results.

Mr Vanderpuije further addressed concerns raised by the Minority over Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL), stating that such matters fall under the mandate of the Office of the Attorney-General and should not be used against the Foreign Affairs Minister.

He noted that the Attorney-General has already indicated that investigations into ORAL-related matters are ongoing, adding that issues predating the current administration have been duly referred for legal action and will ultimately be determined by the courts.
