Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal, is set to file his nomination on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election on the ticket of the ruling National Democratic Congress.
The former Member of Parliament for Akwatia formally declared his intention to contest the seat following the death of the Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Naser Toure, who passed away on January 4, 2026, after a brief illness.
Speaking on his decision to enter the race, Baba Jamal expressed confidence in his chances, citing his long-standing personal ties with the constituency as a key advantage.
He said he is seeking the mandate of the people of Ayawaso East to represent them in Parliament, adding that he has worked closely with residents of the constituency on various fronts over the years.
According to him, the decision to contest the by-election is driven by sacrifice and a strong belief in collective progress, stressing the need to change the narrative and work together for a better future.
The Electoral Commission has scheduled the Ayawaso East parliamentary by-election for Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
