The Inspector-General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has assured the New Patriotic Party of maximum security during its presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.
According to the IGP, a minimum of 70 police personnel will be deployed to each polling station nationwide to ensure a peaceful, orderly, and credible process.
He gave the assurance while speaking at the signing of a Peace Pact by the five NPP flagbearer aspirants on Thursday, January 22, 2026.
Mr. Yohuno disclosed that the Ghana Police Service has formally written to the Minister for the Interior to notify the Minister of Defence to facilitate military support in the Bawku area due to its unique security situation.
He explained that while the police will lead security operations across the country, the military will remain on standby, except in Bawku where direct military support may be required.
Apart from Bawku, he said the police have sufficient personnel to manage security at all polling centres, adding that senior police officers will be present at the various stations.
