The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated intelligence operation along the Akosombo–Tema road.

The operation, which forms part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking activities in the region, was carried out after police received intelligence on January 10, 2026, indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region towards Tema.

According to a press release issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Tema Regional Police Headquarters on January 13, 2026, police teams mounted surveillance along the route, with particular focus on the Agomeda Junction area.

At about 12:45 a.m. on January 11, 2026, two vehicles — a white Toyota Highlander with registration number GS 2013-13 and a black Mitsubishi Pajero with registration number GC 400-22 — were intercepted. The vehicles were driven by Isaac Odo, aged 33, and Kwame Mani, aged 39.

On January 12, 2026, the exhibits and suspects were handed over to the Regional Criminal Investigations Department in Tema, where photographs and inventories were taken. In total, 872 parcels were found in the Mitsubishi Pajero, while 741 parcels were retrieved from the Toyota Highlander, bringing the total number of intercepted parcels to 1,613.

Police are also preparing to process the suspects for court.

The Tema Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to intensifying operations against drug trafficking and other criminal activities and encouraged the public to continue providing credible information to support security efforts and help keep communities safe.
