The Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command has confirmed that four people have died following a tragic accident near the Kasoa tollbooth on Sunday, October 26, 2024.
The deceased include the driver of the sprinter minibus, a male passenger, a Level 200 midwifery student from KAAF University, and a child. Several others sustained injuries, with those in critical condition currently receiving treatment at the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa and the Police Hospital in Accra.
Police have also identified the driver of a Jeep 4×4 vehicle, registered GR 7673 W, who is assisting with investigations.
Eyewitnesses report that the Jeep driver was reversing on the highway when the sprinter minibus, registered GW 7455-18, collided with its rear. The impact caused the minibus to somersault multiple times before landing on the road’s median.
Residents have described the Broadcasting–Tollbooth–Kasoa stretch of the N1 Highway as a notorious hotspot for road accidents.
Chief Inspector Joseph Mensah of the MTTD at the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command, who participated in the rescue efforts, attributed the crash to excessive speeding.
“Excessive speeding by drivers remains one major cause of accidents on this road. Though we continue to advise motorists to drive with care, many still ignore the cautions. We urge them to prioritise their safety and that of their passengers,” he said.
