The University of Ghana (UG), Legon, has lifted the ban on social gatherings on campus, citing an improved COVID-19 situation.
The directive, issued by the Office of Student Affairs in consultation with the University Health Services and Management, takes immediate effect. The move comes after weeks of restrictions imposed following a resurgence of COVID-19 cases earlier this year.
According to the official notice, student organisations and campus groups can now resume events and activities. These include the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Students’ Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Rooms (JCRs), religious groups, and departmental associations.
“GRASAG, SRC, JCR, religious groups, departmental and school associations are now permitted to organise their week celebrations,” the university said in its statement.
However, UG authorities emphasized the continued need for caution, urging all event organisers to observe COVID-19 safety protocols during their activities to prevent a potential resurgence.
“Note that all COVID-19 protocols should be adhered to. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated,” the notice added.
The lifting of the ban is expected to revive campus life and offer relief to students and associations that had put social and academic events on hold.
